Special Announcement
Dec. 10: Beverly Sills was the surprise guest host of the Metropolitan Opera Quiz on Saturday Dec. 9, , during the second intermission of the first radio broadcast of the season, Mozart's Idomeneo. Although there is no schedule currently available of the upcoming quizzes and their hosts, Sills mentioned that she will be returning later in the season to host more quizzes.

Nov. 23: "Beverly Sills: Made in America," a 90-minute documentary on Sills's career, will be shown on WNET Channel 13 in New York City on Thanksgiving evening, November 23, . The program will then be made available to PBS stations for showing in the weeks afterward (check local listings).
The program contains many rare video clips, including TV appearances by Sills in the 1950's and 1960's, as well as a number from the 1970's that have not been made available commercially. The program is made up entirely from extant clips of performances and interviews, and does not include newly filmed interviews. There will be a companion web site launched in November based on the program. For more info and updates, click here.
Nov. 09: Beverly Sills will be making a special live guest appearance on ABC's daytime talk show "The View” opposite her longtime friend Barbara Walters. The order of guest appearances are: Marcia Gay Harden & Beverly Sills. Please check the local television schedule for the broadcast time in your area.
May 25 - Beverly Sills Greenough, celebrates her 77th birthday. (Sills put the date as May 26th in her book "Beverly: An autobiography," which was copied by several later young adult biographies. But May 25 is the date she supplies for her entry in "Who's Who.")
May 11 - Beverly Sills, former general director of the New York City Opera and chairman of Lincoln Center and the Metropolitan Opera, received the Lewis Rudin Award for service to New York City at New York University (NYU) graduation ceremony.
Jan. 16 - Nathan Gunn has won the first Beverly Sills Artist Award, a prize established by the Metropolitan Opera in honor of the popular American soprano. The $50,000 prize, awarded annually to a singer between the ages of 25-40 who has sung at the Met, was given to Gunn by Sills backstage at the Met while he was rehearsing "The Magic Flute," an opera that also figured in Sills's career. Music Rooms - Oct 27 - Sills always used the Portuguese Folk Song, titled "Tell Me Why" as an encore for her recital performances. It was given to her at age 10 by her long-time and only teacher, Estelle Liebling. However, the lyrics for the folk song were rewritten for her farewell gala. Both versions can be heard in the Rarities room , accompanied by the lyrics. Duets ranging from Louise, Maria Stuarda, L'assedio di Corinto, Roberto Devereux, La Traviata, La Fille Du Regiment, and the rarely performed "Scenes from Goethe's Faust" by Schumann. July 04 - Opera Room - To coincide with the release of Norman Treigle's biography, several duets of Sills and Treigle in performances ranging from Faust, Tales of Hoffmann, Don Giovanni, and Rigoletto are now available. June 26 - Rarities Room: Seven year old Sills, sings Arditi: Il bacio from the short film "Uncle Sol Solves It" June 25 - Opera Room: Added the 1916 version of Großmächtige Prinzessin from Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos.
